Sound familiar?

We've heard every reason adults don't start.

Here's what we hear most often — and why none of them are actually a problem.

🕐

"I don't have time."

Twenty to thirty minutes a day is enough. We'll structure lessons so your limited practice time delivers real progress.

🎂

"I'm too old to start."

We've successfully taught students well into their eighties. The research on adult neuroplasticity is on your side — and so are we.

🔄

"I started once and quit."

Most people quit because they had no structure and no accountability. We fix both. Our method keeps you moving forward, visibly.

🖐️

"I have stiff hands / arthritis."

Our teachers have experience with exactly this. We adapt technique to what your hands can do — and playing often helps, not hurts.

The path

How our adult program works

A clear structure so you always know where you are and what's next.

1

5-Week One-on-One Intro

Five private half-hour lessons to get the fundamentals in place: technique, chords, basic reading, rhythm. Your teacher, your pace.

2

Small Group Program

After your intro you join a small group (max 5) at your level. More motivating, more affordable, statistically more likely to keep you playing.

3

Play What You Want

As your skills develop you start specialising — rock, blues, jazz, fingerpicking, whatever drew you to guitar in the first place.

One-on-one first

Your teacher focuses entirely on you.

In your intro lessons we work through the sheet music, the technique, the chord shapes — whatever you need, at whatever pace makes sense for you. No rushing, no comparing yourself to anyone else.

By the end of your five weeks you'll have a solid foundation and the confidence to step into a group.

Then — the group

Why our group lessons work so well for adults.

Adult students in small groups outperform solo learners on almost every measure. You stay accountable, pick up things from watching peers, and it's simply more enjoyable than grinding through it alone.

Groups are capped at 5. Always matched by level. Your teacher still gives individual feedback every session.

FAQ

Common questions from adult learners.

Am I too old to start learning guitar?
Definitely not. We've taught students well into their eighties and beyond. There's solid research showing that learning a musical instrument is excellent for cognitive health at any age.
How much time do I need to practice each week?
Around 3 hours a week will get you where you want to be — ideally broken into half-hour sessions. Consistency beats intensity every time. 20 minutes a day to start is perfectly fine.
I started learning years ago and gave up. Will that happen again?
Most adult dropouts happen for the same reason: no structure and no visible progress. Our method solves both. You'll always know what you're working towards and why.
Can I learn the songs I actually want to play?
Yes — that's the whole point. We teach skills that give you the keys to any song, not just the ones we hand you. Your teacher will also work your preferred songs into lessons from early on.
How long until I can actually play something?
You'll be playing simple riffs and chords within the first few weeks. Most adult students can play recognisable songs within 2–3 months. The 6-month mark is typically where it all clicks.
Do I need to buy a guitar before I start?
Get in touch first and we can advise on exactly what to buy for your goals and budget. Buying the wrong guitar at the start is a very common and avoidable mistake.
Where are you located and what are your hours?
Right across the road from Ashfield train station — brown door next to Ga On Hair. Evening lessons available. Call 0493 641 529 to sort a time.
Why do you use group lessons after the intro course?
Adult learners in small groups are statistically more likely to stick with it. You stay accountable, learn from peers, and it's more fun. Groups are capped at 5 so you still get plenty of individual attention.
